Columbus, Ohio does volleyball. The popular hashtag #cbusdoesvb fills a Twitter feed with articles, photos, and volleyball moments captured in the heart of the Ohio Valley Region, one of the largest regions of USA Volleyball. The JVA is excited to be a part of the hype as JVA SummerFest kicks off this weekend as the fourth and final consecutive weekend of volleyball hosted by the Greater Columbus Convention Center. JVA SummerFest is a 2 day event bringing 230 girls volleyball teams from the Midwest, Mideast and Mid-South competing in age divisions 12U-18U.
Over the past 20 years the Greater Columbus Convention Center has hosted more volleyball events than any other venue in the country.
“We are happy to be able to host a JVA tournament in Columbus. Columbus has been the site of a number of quality volleyball events and they understand the particular needs of the tournament host, our teams, and the families who will participate. Linda Logan and her staff at The Greater Columbus Sports Commission has been phenomenal in helping us make this event special. Because Columbus is located in the Ohio Valley Volleyball Region of USA Volleyball, we can draw from the many great club programs and core of officials that are part of their program. We are looking forward to a great event and hope to make this an annual stop on our JVA tournament schedule” shares Jenny Hahn, Executive Director of the JVA.
JVA SummerFest will display many of the top teams in the region, as well as the country. According to PrepVolleyball.com National Club Rankings, the 15 Open Division includes the #1 ranked team in the country, “Munciana 15 Lorax” who are among 6 of the top 25 teams in the country. The 15s Division includes 10 of top 50 teams in the country.
The 16 Open Division features 4 of the top 25 teams in the country and 7 of the top 50 teams in the country. The 17 Open Division includes 2 of the top 10 teams in the country and 6 of the top 25 teams in the country.
It’s no surprise that the Ohio Valley Region breeds great volleyball. Players are surrounded with opportunities to witness high level volleyball in person beginning with 2016 NCAA Men’s Volleyball Champion Ohio State University Men’s Volleyball program and Ohio State Women’s Volleyball, Sweet 16 contender four of the past five seasons, as well as the numerous Division I, II and III collegiate programs within the state of Ohio. This December, the city will host the 2016 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championships at Nationwide Arena, further cementing the city’s growing reputation as a volleyball capital.
JVA SummerFest participants will be able to win tickets for their team to go to the NCAA Volleyball Championships by taking a picture with the Championship trophy and using #NCAAVB and #cbusdoesvb in a tweet or Instagram.
It will be an exciting weekend of volleyball in Columbus, as young players will continue to be exposed to higher level volleyball, furthering their volleyball IQ and setting their goals high to be up on that big stage some day.
