Prior to tryouts, create rubrics or evaluation templates to evaluate not only “hard” skills but also “intangibles” like coachability, communication, attitude, effort. Consistent evaluation helps reduce bias and ensures fairness across players. Your club can utilize a software such as TeamGenius to collect and input player evaluations and feedback, or you can use a google doc spreadsheet that collects data for each athlete.
