What began as a single end-of-season tournament idea has grown into one of the most impactful volleyball clubs in the Philadelphia area. TNT Volleyball Club, founded in 2016 by Club Director Chuck Dougherty, is built on a clear foundation: affordability, development, and enjoyment of the game.

The club’s origin reflects that vision. Dougherty brought together his daughter and a group of her friends from different clubs for one final tournament. After a single practice, a dominant performance, and a positive team experience, the players wanted more. As Dougherty recalls, “After one practice together as a team, a dominant performance on the court, and lots of laughs, the resounding question was, ‘Can we do this for real?’”

That question led to the official launch of TNT Volleyball in fall 2016. From the outset, the mission was direct: “TNT Volleyball is a club in the Philadelphia area that believes playing club volleyball should be affordable for all families. We provide the same club experience as larger clubs at a fraction of the cost.”

Starting with four teams, TNT quickly established itself by prioritizing both player development and a positive experience. That balance became the foundation of a culture that fueled significant growth. By 2020, the club had expanded to 20 teams, attracting both athletes and Coaches aligned with its values.

The opening of the TNT Bunker in 2021 marked a major milestone. The three-court facility enabled expanded programming, increased regional access, and continued investment in the local volleyball community. Competitive success followed, with six teams earning AAU bid tournament victories, reinforcing that a strong culture and high performance can coexist.

By 2022, TNT had grown into one of the largest clubs in the region, fielding 39 girls’ teams and launching a boys’ program with nine teams. Despite this growth, the club has maintained its family-focused environment and commitment to inclusivity.

That commitment extends beyond competition. TNT invests in its community through initiatives such as the Play4Abbey quads tournament, which honors a former player while raising scholarship funds and supporting mental health and suicide prevention awareness. The club also hosts free clinics for local CYO and middle school teams, expanding access to the sport.

Athletes play an active role in that impact. TNT encourages players to give back by coaching younger teams, assisting with positional training, and supporting in-house programming. This approach builds leadership and strengthens the club’s internal community.

Player development is comprehensive. TNT offers weekly Academy sessions focused on positional training and fundamentals, along with strength and conditioning included in tuition. The club also supports long-term athlete success through recruiting guidance from a network of more than 100 Coaches and educational sessions focused on mental performance.

Looking ahead, TNT remains focused on access and opportunity. Programming continues to expand to ensure every athlete has a place to play, with multiple team levels and in-house options that reduce traditional barriers such as tryouts.

Off the court, TNT connects with its community through its podcast, Bump.Set.Mic, which has surpassed 12,000 downloads across more than 40 episodes. Covering topics relevant to players, parents, and Coaches, the podcast has become an additional platform for education and engagement.

From a single team to a thriving organization, TNT Volleyball Club continues to demonstrate that growth, impact, and culture can advance together.

TNT Volleyball Club based in North Wales, Pennsylvania, is a member of Junior Volleyball Association, an organization dedicated to enhancing the junior volleyball experience for Club Directors, Coaches, players, and fans.
