The JVA is pleased to announce that Maggie Griffin has been re-elected to the JVA Board of Directors and Kris Wojiek-Stein has been elected to the JVA Board of Directors. This will be Maggie’s third term on the Board and Kris’ first term.

Maggie has an extensive volleyball background as a Director and player. She founded VCNebraska in 2011 while coaching for her alma mater at the University of Nebraska. Since her club’s formation, the program has grown from 4 teams in 2011 to over 40 teams in 2019, including regional and competitive options, a youth program, and an extensive camp program that spans the state of Nebraska. Maggie has been an instrumental part of the JVA’s growth in the state of Nebraska. In 2017 she was awarded the AVCA 30 under 30. In 2019 VCNebraska opened e a brand new, state of the art 12 court multi sport facility set to open in 2019.

“I have been lucky enough to serve on the Board of Directors for the last 8 years and enjoyed my previous roles as Treasurer and on the Executive Committee. I have worked with four different Club Directors across the country in the JVA mentor program. Through this program, I’ve been able to build connections and offer support to Directors like myself who are looking for guidance and assistance in best practices.I am able to work with coaches and directors of all experiences and levels, and that is a huge advantage in building relationships in this space,” said Maggie.

During her first three-year term on the JVA Board of Directors, Maggie was the Chair of JVA’s Finance Committee and also the Board Treasurer. For the last decade, Maggie has shared numerous educational resources in the areas of business management, culture, and club operations, presented in the JVA Club Management Track at the AVCA Convention and Club Management Guide Volume 1 and Volume 2 in partnership with the Art of Coaching Volleyball, and facilitated Club Direction LIVE calls with members.

“We are so grateful that Maggie has been re-elected to our JVA Board of Directors. She’s exhibited her dedication to JVA in so many ways: the growth of JVA in our early years, her mentorship of new club directors, and her numerous contributions to our education and resources. Her experience in the club world has been an integral part of our leadership group and will be invaluable to JVA as we move forward,” shared JVA Executive Director, Jenny Hahn.

Kris Wojiek-Stein is the Chief Executive Director of Tidewater Volleyball Academy and 757 Beach in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Since she joined the JVA she has consistently assisted in JVA’s mission to provide education and resources to junior volleyball leaders by participating in and hosting each and indoor calls for JVA Directors, attending the JVA Beach Summit in 2023, running JVA insured tournaments, presenting in the 2023 JVA Club Management Track, and presenting in the Club Management Guide 2.0 in partnership with the Art of Coaching Volleyball.

JVA has always had a special place in my heart because of the mission of the organization and the amount of time and effort that is placed into developing players and especially coaches. The investment in the Club Management track speaks volumes because it assists new and existing clubs in business planning and creating programs that families can get behind and support, which in turn grows the sport of volleyball,” stated Wojiek-Stein.

Like Maggie, Kris has extensive experience as a player, as well as a coach at the Division I and II collegiate levels. She was the Club Director of Northern Virginia Volleyball Association for five years and served on the NVVA Board for 2 years. In addition to her role at Tidewater Volleyball Association, she serves on the TVA Board, and is the Beach Coordinator for the USA Volleyball Old Dominion Region. Kris volunteers in her city recreation program to run a class for training the coaches and assists with managing their practices.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kris to the JVA Board! Her years of dedication to JVA as an educator, resource provider, and trusted advisor have already made a significant impact on JVA’s community of directors,” stated JVA Associate Executive Director, Lisa Wielebnicki. “Her fresh perspective, versatility, and deep understanding of our mission will be invaluable as we continue to grow and support youth volleyball. We are excited to have her as a new voice and a trusted teammate we can lean on.”
