What is the JVA Boys National Championship?
The JVA Boys National Championship is the culminating event of the 2026–2027 JVA boys volleyball season. The championship is designed to bring together boys clubs from across the country for a high-level, competitive, and memorable national championship experience.
The event will feature multiple divisions, a variety of age groups, and a championship experience designed to celebrate athletes, coaches, clubs, and the growth of boys volleyball.
When and where will the JVA Boys National Championship be held?
The 2027 JVA Boys National Championship will be held in St. Louis, Missouri at the America’s Center Convention Complex and The Dome, from June 26 through July 3, 2027. The 4th-7th can be added if additional waves are needed.
When does registration open?
Registration for the JVA Boys National Championship opens November 2, 2026.
Is there a Stay to Play requirement?
No. The JVA Boys National Championship will not have a Stay to Play requirement nor will any JVA insured event.
How many teams will be accepted?
The JVA Boys National Championship is being designed to accommodate clubs and teams across multiple divisions and age groups.
The Open Division will include up to 48 teams per age group, and the Premier Division will potentially be capped at 48 teams per age group.
Additional divisions will be offered to provide competitive opportunities for teams at different levels.
What age groups will be offered?
The championship will offer divisions for 12s through 18s.
Age divisions will be based on the JVA age definitions for the 2026–2027 season.
What are the age requirements?
The current age definitions are:
- 18 & Under: Born on or after July 1, 2008
- 17 & Under: Born on or after July 1, 2009
- 16 & Under: Born on or after July 1, 2010
- 15 & Under: Born on or after July 1, 2011
- 14 & Under: Born on or after July 1, 2012
- 13 & Under: Born on or after July 1, 2013
- 12 & Under: Born on or after July 1, 2014
JVA will also allow certain age-waivered athletes to compete at grade level with their peers, provided the athlete is not more than one year older than the applicable age definition. Required age and grade documentation must be submitted prior to the roster deadline.
What divisions will be offered?
The JVA Boys National Championship will include the following divisions:
- Open
- Premier
- Elite
- Club
- Select
- Classic
The goal is to provide meaningful competition for teams across a range of competitive levels.
What is the Open Division format?
The Open Division will include up to 48 teams per age group.
The current format is expected to include:
- Large pool play
- Reseeding
- Challenge matches
- Competitive opportunities throughout the event, including for 14s teams
The final competition format will be announced in advance of the championship and subject to change.
How does a team qualify for the Open Division?
Teams must compete in at least one designated Open Consideration Tournament to be eligible for the Open Division.
A limited number of Open Division positions may be held for at-large selections.
What are Open Consideration Tournaments?
Open Consideration Tournaments are designated events that will carry additional weight in the Open Division seeding and selection process.

- Boys Winter Invitational
- SoCal Cup: The Open Championship
- JVA Brew City Battle
- Nike Steel City Boys Championship
- SoCal Cup: The Winter Formal

How will teams be seeded?
A seeding process is being developed designed to create a competitive and transparent championship field.
The system will use an ELO-style point system and will consider results from qualifying events throughout the season. Designated Open Consideration Tournaments will carry additional weight in the seeding process.
The goal is to create a system that rewards competitive performance while reducing bias and providing opportunities for teams across the country.
Does my club need to be a JVA member to participate?
Clubs participating in the JVA Boys National Championship will need to meet the applicable JVA membership and eligibility requirements.
JVA membership provides clubs with access to educational resources, insurance options, sponsorship and grant opportunities, and other member benefits.
What are the JVA membership options?
Clubs may join as a JVA Club Director or a JVA Organization.
JVA Club Director Membership — $130/year
Benefits include:
- Access to JVA educational resources and webinars
- Award nomination eligibility
- Grant and sponsorship opportunities
- Free AVCA and AOC memberships for the Club Director
- Access to JVA insurance options
JVA Organization Membership
- $590/year — Club Director + 9 coaches
- $1,080/year — Club Director + 19 coaches
- $1,470/year — Club Director + 29 coaches
Organization membership extends applicable benefits to sponsored coaches.
Do athletes need to purchase a JVA membership?
No paid player membership is required.
All athletes participating in JVA events must complete the required JVA insurance waiver before participating.
Are background screens required?
Yes. JVA requires background screens for JVA adult members and rostered adults.
The JVA Background Screen and Trusted Coach Training are currently $27 per person per year and are valid for one year.
Is a JVA insurance waiver required?
Yes. All athletes and rostered adults participating in JVA events must complete the required insurance waiver before participation.
Clubs will be able to track waiver submissions through their member dashboard.

Is the JVA Boys National Championship the only JVA boys event?
No. The JVA Boys National Championship is the culmination of a complete season-long event ecosystem.
The 2026–2027 JVA boys season will include opportunities such as:
- Power Series events
- Challenge Series events
- Premier Events
- Open Consideration Tournaments
- The JVA Boys National Championship
The goal is to create a full competitive pathway for boys volleyball throughout the season. The seeding considerations and multipliers for these events will be posted.

How will geographic zones work?
The JVA will initially continue using the current geographic zone (district) structure.
A committee has been formed to review the structure and consider potential changes for future seasons.
JVA recognizes that clubs may have feedback regarding geographic boundaries and will provide opportunities for clubs to submit suggestions.

It is required that a JVA Insurance Waiver be completed every season by every player and staff member attending a JVA tournament.
Insurance waivers cannot be edited once submitted. Completed waivers are sent directly to your volleyball club.
All adults listed on a roster for JVA-insured tournaments must complete the JVA Background Screen and Trusted Coach training. Clubs cannot submit rosters until every adult listed has a cleared background screen and completed coaches training. For more information about JVA’s background screening requirements, click here.
Adults with a verified AAU background screen may be added to a JVA roster and are not required to complete the JVA Background Screen form. JVA does NOT accept USAV background screens.

Volleyball Rental: JVA does not have volleyball rental available. All teams are responsible for bringing their own volleyballs for warmups. Game balls will be provided.
Athletic Trainers: Athletic Trainers will be available inside the playing hall by the main tournament desk.
Facility Rules: No outside food, beverage, or tailgating allowed. No coolers will be allowed. There will be chairs provided along each court for spectators. Camping chairs will NOT be allowed in the convention center due to a potential fire hazard.
