The JVA is pleased to announce the slate of events that comprise the 2023-2024 BVCA Club Challenge Series powered by the JVA. The sixth year of the series brings new hosts and participating beach clubs, along with club dual competition at various levels.
In partnership with the Beach Volleyball Clubs of America, the competitive beach series is designed to emulate the college game, with a club dual format. Every event included in this series is a collaboration of junior beach volleyball clubs that align their ranked teams to compete against one another for the win. Each tournament is required to have match play competition following NCAA beach volleyball rules, which helps clubs develop their athletes for the next level.
“Every year new clubs are joining the BVCA Club vs Club Series, which is exciting for the growth of our sport. The clubs who have been competing in club dual events are getting bigger and better by elevating their offerings as a beach club. This can be accredited to the club schedule that focuses on the team format and development for the college level. The JVA has been a consistent support to help these beach clubs manage their programs, no matter where they are located or the size of their club. This series continues to positively shape the landscape of junior beach volleyball,” said BVCA Founder and JVA Board Member Jeff Smith.
The 2023-2024 BVCA Club Challenge Series features a true National Club Schedule with 3 levels of play (Open, Club, Futures), as well as three Pairs/Individual events that all culminate in the 2024 BVCA National Championships in Hermosa Beach in mid July. Due the growth of the Futures level, the top eight ranked Futures squads will compete in the inaugural Futures National Championship at the BVCA National Championships.
The BVCA offers a national database of athletes and what club they play for, as well as a national points system and national ranking system for clubs and pairs. The BVCA membership also enforces standards for beach club events across the country and encourages players to be a member of the same club for the duration of the season.
Each event in the BVCA Club Challenge Series is required to have match play competition following NCAA beach volleyball rules with 5-team or 3-team “squads”, as well as a pairs event where all teams must come from the same club. Each event can have up to 3 divisions, allowing clubs and athletes to have matched competition among three divisions: Open, Club, and Futures.
Open (Division 1): Top competing athletes that represent the club. These athletes are likely committed athletes or high level players in that process. Athletes are most likely juniors and seniors (but can be very high level younger athletes).
Club (Division 2): Freshman/sophomore athletes and/or junior/seniors that just are still being developed.
Futures (Division 3): 6th, 7th and 8th graders only.
There is no stay to play policy, and every tournament is open to clubs/teams of any affiliation (AAU, USAV, JVA, other) so all teams are welcome and will be insured.
